School buses in Ottawa will now have cameras that activate when the stop arm engages to record, capture license numbers, of violators passing a school bus while the stop lights are flashing.
The fine is $490 and 3 demerit points
Those so caught with the camera will suffer the fine but not the demerits because there is no way to identify the driver, only the owner of the vehicle.
Since this is, so far, just a pilot project, not all school buses will be camera equipped. There will be many more with cameras in the future, not just in the Ottawa area but the entire province. Be aware, be forewarned.
