Winnipeg Motor Express Inc. was founded in 1989 by entrepreneur R.E. (Richard) Sobey, as a natural extension of the storage & distribution, messenger, and cartage businesses he had developed over the previous 10 years. The business was started primarily as an East/West domestic service moving full loads of consolidated shipments for distribution in Western Canada. As opportunities for transportation into and out of the United States arose, Winnipeg Motor Express adjusted its focus to a North – South orientation, while establishing service points in other key Canadian centers. Areas of service again expanded dramatically with the development of WME Logistics, and the addition of a Refrigerated Service fleet in 1999. By continuing to focus on providing a premium service at a reasonable rate, Winnipeg Motor Express continues to establish itself as the carrier of choice providing dependable transportation and distribution solutions throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.
